GROUNDHOG DAY

I know Groundhog Day is over...BUT I just have to weigh in on this ridiculous crap...

First of all, I know it's a tradition and that it is done because well, I guess people like it or whatever (not to mention the money it brings into Punxsutawney. And let's face it most places in PA that aren't say...Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, or big metropolitan areas would need a gimmick like that. So, I guess this is Punxsutawney's one day of the year. Whatever.

I know I'm gonna get a lot of "scientific guff" about the Vernal Equinox) but I also think assigning a date to the "First day of Spring is a bit arbitrary. If it's still snowing in your neck of the woods...SORRY GUYS, SPRING HASN'T ARRIVED! On the other hand, spring is also equated with new beginnings and life. SO....What, you may as at this juncture, is the DaNNieLLe definition of "spring".

To me, Spring starts the day I wake up or leave my door, and here birds singing...The first time I conciously notice it...Ya know? When you say to yourself, "Oh, well that's refreshing." That's spring. You can smell it in the air. The first time I take the dog out and think maybe we should go to the park and play catch. That's spring. It feels, in a way, like a new lease on life that we slowly give up as it gets colder. Then suddenly feel the freedom to let loose and enjoy life again.

That's just my 10 cents...

I'm glad [someone] thinks so...I think my husband thought I had gone off my meds again...Just kidding, I'm not really on THAT kind of meds, but he razzed me about getting so wound about GROUNDHOG DAY. "I didn't know it bothered you that much?" Truth be told...It's not that big a deal, I think [you] got my point...it was really about the feeling of SPRING. That's what I was trying to get across. I don't know...I just like feeling refreshed and new...And hearing the birds (consciously) for the first time makes me feel that. Glad you liked it...and that [someone] is actually checking out my musings (even if they seem a little out in the field of posies) :)
